About Bwthyn Croeso
A demo cottage showing what QR Welcome can do. Imagine a 1890s fisherman's cottage, thick stone walls, slate floors and a log burner, a short walk from the sand. Everything on this page is set up by the owner in a few minutes, and only the sections they fill in appear.
Lighting the log burner
- Open the air vent at the bottom fully (slide it to the right).
- Two firelighters in the middle, a handful of kindling on top, then two small logs.
- Light the firelighters and close the door, leaving it open a crack for 5 minutes.
- Close the door fully once the logs have caught.
- Turn the vent halfway to keep it burning slowly. Logs are in the store by the back door.
Using the hot tub
- It's kept at 38°C and ready when you arrive. Lift the cover from the front edge and fold it back onto the stand.
- Press the jets button on the side panel to turn the bubbles on; they switch off by themselves after 20 minutes.
- Please shower first and no glass in or near the tub. Plastic cups are in the outdoor cupboard.
- Children must be supervised at all times, and we don't recommend it for under-5s.
- Keep sessions to about 20 minutes at a time, and skip it after alcohol.
- Always put the cover back on and clip it shut. It keeps the water warm and stops little ones and pets falling in.
Using the BBQ
- The gas BBQ is on the patio, with the bottle in the cabinet underneath.
- Open the lid first, then turn the bottle valve on.
- Push and turn the left knob to ignite, then light the others from it.
- After about 10 minutes it's hot enough to cook.
- When you've finished, turn the knobs off, then the bottle valve.
- Never use it indoors, in the porch or under the canopy: fumes can kill.
- A brush is in the cabinet, and a quick scrub while it's still warm is perfect.
Good to know
Is there a hairdryer?
Yes, in the top drawer of the main bedroom chest.
Can we bring the dog?
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome downstairs. Beach towels for paws are in the porch, and poo bags are by the door.
Is there phone signal?
Patchy in the cottage, good in the garden. Use WiFi calling on your phone settings for indoor calls.
Where can we charge an electric car?
There's no charger at the cottage. Ask us and we'll point you to the nearest public charger.

Llanbedrog headland and the Tin Man
Our favourite short walk. Start at Llanbedrog beach (National Trust car park), climb the steps through the woods to the Tin Man sculpture, and look back over Cardigan Bay. Go late afternoon for the light. Allow about an hour.

Check datesThe story of this beach
A vicar’s clothes were found folded on a rock at Porth Neigwl — shoes set neatly beside them, wedding ring on top. Everyone assumed the sea had taken him. His wife grieved him for eighteen months, and then she found the tide charts in his desk.
It happened here, on this coast. The Saltwater Lie by Stuart Gradwell — a novel inspired by true events.
