Welcome to llyn.live/schools, the official resource and submission portal for the Yn Difyr ar y Llŷn community initiative.

This project connects primary and secondary school students across the LL53 catchment with local elders to capture, edit, and preserve the living history, language, and culture of our peninsula through digital storytelling.

Whether you are a teacher framing a Welsh Baccalaureate project, a primary student conducting your first interview, or an FE student editing a full documentary episode, this page contains your complete toolkit.

How to Use This Page

Teachers: Review Section 1 for Key Stage curriculum mapping (KS2 through KS5) and Section 2 for project safeguarding and GDPR rules.
Students: Use the Llŷn 20 Question Matrix in Section 3 to pick your interview questions, and follow the Mobile Videography Cheatsheet in Appendix B before recording.
Submissions: Create your student folder in Google Drive, include your completed log and signed release form (Appendix C), and share the folder as Editor to socialhistory.llynlive53@gmail.com.

1. Inclusive All-Ages Framework & Learning Pathways

Yn Difyr ar y Llŷn connects learners across all educational tiers in the LL53 catchment (Ysgol Botwnnog catchment primaries, Ysgol Chwilog, Ysgol Foel Gron, Ysgol Pentreuchaf, Ysgol Botwnnog, Ysgol Glan y Môr, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor) with local elders through digital storytelling.

2. Google Drive Submission Workflow & Safeguarding

Google Drive Folder Submission Instructions
Step 1: Create Folder — Name your folder using: [School]_[StudentName]_[Topic] (e.g., YsgolBotwnnog_ElenEvans_Farming).
Step 2: Add Files — Place two files inside:

This completed Learner Pack & Signed Release Form (Appendix C) as .pdf or .docx.
Your final edited video file (.mp4 or .mov).

Step 3: Share Access — Share the folder with socialhistory.llynlive53@gmail.com as Editor.

Safeguarding & Data Protection (GDPR) Mandate
1. Consent First: No video or audio will be uploaded to YouTube or llyn.live without a signed Media Release Form (Appendix C) from the interviewee and parent/guardian.
2. Data Storage: Raw footage must be stored securely on school-approved drives or managed student devices.
3. Privacy Safeguards: Students must NOT disclose exact home addresses or phone numbers within published media.

Guidance: Primary (KS2) select 3–4 basic questions; Secondary (KS3/4) select 6–8 questions; Post-16 (KS5) add custom investigative follow-ups.

Part 1: Childhood & Early Memories

What did this village or town look and sound like when you were my age compared to today?
What were your favorite secret spots to play or explore as a child, and are those places still there?
What was school life like for you back then, and what did you do as soon as the school bell rang?
Can you tell me about your parents or grandparents—what brought them to or kept them in the Llŷn?

Part 2: Daily Life, Work & The Changing Peninsula

What was your very first job, and what were the main ways people earned a living around here when you were young?
How did people get around before everyone had cars—how did you travel between villages or get into town?
What did a typical Sunday or family meal look like when you were growing up?
Where did your family buy food and household goods, and do you remember any local shopkeepers who stood out?
How did the changing seasons affect life here—from farming and fishing in winter to the arrival of summer visitors?

Part 3: Culture, Lore & Community

How has the Welsh language or local dialect spoken in our community changed during your lifetime?
What were the big community events, fairs, or gatherings that everyone looked forward to each year?
Can you share a story, legend, or rumor you heard as a child about a local shipwreck, ghost, or hidden place?
How did people stay connected and support each other through hard times or harsh winter storms?
What is a local tradition or pastime from your youth that has almost disappeared today?

Part 4: Looking Back & The Future

What is the biggest single change you have witnessed on the peninsula during your lifetime?
If you could step back in time to visit the Llŷn on one specific day from your past, which day would you choose and why?
What is a place on the peninsula that holds a special personal memory for you that most people just walk right past today?
What do you think young people growing up in LL53 today should know or appreciate most about their home?

Appendix B: Mobile Videography Cheatsheet

5 Universal Rules for All Age Groups

Horizontal (16:9): Always turn phone or tablet sideways.
Face Natural Light: Keep windows in front of the subject, never behind.
Keep Camera Still: Use a tripod or desk mount (no shaky hand-held filming).
Clear Audio: Mute background noise (TVs, fans) and sit close.
3-Second Pause: Count to 3 after every response before moving to the next question.
